14th Steel Strips All India Open Bridge Championship from April 10: K.R. Lakhanpal
Chandigarh(The Uttam Hindu) : The 14th Steel Strips All India Open Bridge Championship will be organized by the Punjab Bridge Association in Chandigarh from April 10 to 12.
This was announced by the Association's President Emeritus, R.K. Garg, and Chairman, K.R. Lakhanpal. They highlighted the growing popularity of the game of Bridge in India and expressed confidence that this championship would further strengthen the sport within the country.
The national championship was announced today during a meeting of the Association. Vice Chairman Viswajeet Khanna, Organizing Secretary J.S. Bahl, and members Kuldeep Khanna and Durgesh Mishra were also present at the meeting.
This prestigious tournament has been organized in collaboration with Steel Strips since its inception. The championship will be inaugurated by Prasad Keni, President of the Bridge Federation of India.
Mr. Lakhanpal stated that approximately 200 players, representing 42 teams from across the country—12 of which will be from the local region—will participate in this championship. The competition promises to feature a high level of play, with renowned players such as Raju Tolani, Biswadeep Roy, Bijon Bandyopadhyay, Debashish Roy, T.C. Pant, and Subhash Gupta serving as the main attractions.
To encourage greater participation and provide opportunities for new talent, special prizes have been designated for female and young players. The total prize money for this championship exceeds ₹10 lakh, making it one of the most competitive and attractive Bridge championships in the country.
