Jalandhar (The Uttam Hindu): National spokesperson of Bharatiya Janata Party Jaiveer Shergill said that the current flood in Punjab is not just a natural disaster, but it is the result of the negligence of the Aam Aadmi Party government and the betrayal of the people of Punjab. Those who had promised change have once again left the people disappointed and helpless.

He said that Punjab was badly affected by floods in the year 2023 also. Instead of learning lessons from that time and making solid preparations, the AAP government did not take any concrete steps. Neither any strong plan was made, nor was there any effort to strengthen the structure, nor was it told what preparations were made after 2023. Till date the government has not even issued a white paper on this.

Shergill raised questions that -

• Why was the flood preparedness committee meeting not held in February and why was it postponed till June due to Delhi elections?

• Why were the warnings of heavy rains ignored?

• Crores of rupees were allocated, but why was it not spent on the ground?

• Why was the Madhopur gate not repaired on time?

He said that in these difficult circumstances, when the people of Punjab are presenting an example of Chaddi Kala with mutual cooperation, the AAP government is missing. No flood can shake the soul and spirit of Punjab.

The Bharatiya Janata Party demands from the Punjab government to immediately issue a white paper, which should clearly state what steps were taken after the 2023 floods and what preparations were made to prevent future disasters. The people of Punjab want transparency, not deception. Jaiveer Shergill said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Bharatiya Janata Party has always stood with Punjab and will stand strongly in the future too.
