Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): In a significant action against the drug trade in Punjab, the state government on Wednesday launched a massive operation targeting alleged drug networks with political links. A high-profile raid was carried out at the residence of senior Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia in Amritsar’s Green Avenue. A heavy deployment of Vigilance officials, Punjab Police and the Rapid Action Force surrounded the locality barricading all access points and beginning a detailed examination of key documents inside the premises. Security forces were also stationed around neighboring homes to prevent any outside interference.

This raid is part of a broader, state-wide operation involving searches at 26 locations across Punjab:

Amritsar-9

Sangrur-3

Majitha-2

Tarn Taran-4

Ludhiana-2

Raids are also going on in Pathankot and Hoshiarpur.

Officials have reportedly seized several documents linked to the investigation and the presence of Majithia inside his house was confirmed during the raid. The area remains under strict surveillance.

Responding to the action, Bikram Majithia lashed out at the Bhagwant Mann-led government, accusing it of fabricating fresh charges to suppress his voice. “When their earlier false case failed they planned this new drama. I’m not afraid. I will continue to speak for Punjab. Truth will prevail,” Majithia said. The raids mark one of the most extensive actions by Vigilance authorities under the current government’s anti-drug drive.
