Chandigarh(The Uttam Hindu): MLA and Secretary of the All India Congress Committee, Padma Shri Pargat Singh, has welcomed the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s decision to impose a four-week stay on the controversial Land Pooling Policy, calling it a significant victory for the people of Punjab—especially its farmers.

“This is not just a legal order—it is a people’s verdict against the arbitrary and exploitative policies of the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab government and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann,” said Pargat Singh.

He added that the state government must now realize that land grabbing under the guise of development will not be tolerated, and that looting Punjab’s land worth crores at the expense of farmers will be fiercely resisted.

“Congress stands shoulder to shoulder with our farmers. We will continue to oppose this autocratic and anti-farmer agenda of the AAP government.”

Pargat Singh, who was the first to raise the alarm against the Land Pooling Policy from Jalandhar, had issued a strong warning just a day before in a press conference at the Punjab Congress office. He had described the policy as a deliberate attempt to snatch farmland and dismantle the agrarian foundation of Punjab.

Welcoming the High Court’s decision, Pargat Singh said:

“Though the court has granted an initial stay of four weeks, this is only the beginning. This policy must and will be struck down permanently. The Punjab government will have to withdraw this disastrous decision.”
