BJP’s Attempt to Seize Chandigarh Is an Attack on Punjab’s Honour: MP Malvinder Singh Kang
Chandigarh(The Uttam Hindu): AAP MP Malvinder Singh Kang strongly condemned the BJP-led central government for what he described as a “direct assault on Punjab’s rights, history, and dignity.” Reacting to the recent report, published in an English daily newspaper, suggesting that the Union Government intends to bring Chandigarh fully under its control in the upcoming Parliament session, Kang said the move exposes the BJP’s deep-rooted bias and hostility towards Punjab.
Kang said that Chandigarh was established as Punjab’s capital by displacing Punjab’s farmers and villages, and the state’s emotional, historical, and legal ownership is indisputable. “For 65 years, successive governments failed to return Chandigarh to Punjab, but now the BJP wants to eliminate even the remaining rights we hold,” he said.
Slamming the BJP’s “anti-Punjab mindset,” Kang added, “Punjab is the land of honour. The BJP may hate Punjab and Sikhs as much as it wants, but Punjab will never let anyone loot its rights. Chandigarh was, is, and will remain Punjab’s capital.”
Kang reminded the Centre that the arrangement of Chandigarh being a temporary Union Territory was only until Haryana built its own capital. “Across India, every state’s capital remains with the parent state. In this case, the parent state is Punjab. Chandigarh must be fully restored to Punjab.”
Announcing AAP’s next steps, Kang said, “We will oppose this dictatorial move in Parliament and on the streets. A massive struggle is coming.”
He appealed to all Punjabis to unite beyond politics, religion, and caste. “If the BJP captures Chandigarh today, tomorrow Punjab’s culture, heritage, and identity will be under attack. We must stand together and fight to protect our land and honour
