Bomb threat at Punjab–Haryana Secretariat in Chandigarh, security agencies rush to spot
Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Panic gripped Chandigarh on Thursday, January 29, after a bomb threat was received targeting the Punjab–Haryana Secretariat. The alert came just a day after threatening emails were sent to around 30 prominent schools in the city, raising serious security concerns.
As soon as the information was received, teams from Chandigarh Police, the bomb disposal squad, and the fire brigade rushed to the spot. Security agencies immediately evacuated the entire Secretariat complex and launched a thorough search operation. As a precautionary measure, the Secretariat area was turned into a high-security zone, with senior police officers personally monitoring the situation. Intensive checks are being carried out in every part of the premises.
It is noteworthy that on Wednesday, as many as 30 schools in Chandigarh had received threat emails claiming an explosion would take place at 1:11 pm. However, after extensive verification, all those threats were later confirmed to be hoaxes.
The police cyber cell is now investigating whether the latest threat to the Secretariat is linked to the earlier emails sent to schools. Due to repeated threats, security across the city has been tightened, and an atmosphere of fear and alertness prevails among residents.
