BSF Recovers Nearly Four Quintals of Narcotics and Large Cache of Weapons
Jalandhar (The Uttam Hindu): The Border Security Force (BSF) Punjab Frontier has recovered massive quantities of narcotics, weapons, and ammunition so far this year. On the eve of BSF’s 61st Raising Day, celebrated on December 1 at JCP Attari in Amritsar, the force held its annual press conference on Sunday. Officials stated that this year marks a significant milestone as BSF proudly celebrates its Diamond Jubilee, commemorating six decades of dedicated service since its establishment on December 1, 1965.
According to the BSF Public Relations Officer, the press conference highlighted major operational achievements, border management initiatives, security measures, and several key activities carried out between January 1 and November 30, 2025. In the last 11 months, BSF has seized 272 drones, 367.788 kg of heroin, 19.033 kg of ice drugs, 14.437 kg of opium, 200 assorted ammunition rounds, 3,625 live rounds, 10.245 kg of RDX/IED explosives, 12 hand grenades, and 265 magazines. The force also arrested 133 smugglers and a total of 251 suspects. This includes 18 Pakistani nationals, four Nepali citizens, and four Bangladeshis. Three Pakistani intruders were also neutralized.
BSF Punjab Frontier deployed 22 companies for the security of the 2025 Shri Amarnath Yatra route in Kashmir. Additionally, BSF units assisted civil administration in Haryana, Chandigarh, Prayagraj’s Mahakumbh Mela, and various law-and-order duties across Punjab. The frontier also supported assembly and by-elections in Bihar, Delhi, Gujarat, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan, Odisha, and West Bengal. In 2025, the frontier conducted 90 security coordination meetings with partner agencies, along with 3 meetings with Punjab Police and 2 with the Indian Army, strengthening inter-agency cooperation and border management.
On December 23, 2024, BSF organized the 14th edition of the Rozgar Mela to provide guidance and job opportunities to youth. On March 12, 2025, International Women’s Day was celebrated across all BSF formations in Punjab, honoring women’s contributions through motivational talks, interactive sessions, and cultural events.
The Pension Adalat 2025, held on September 30, saw the participation of 164 pensioners from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Chandigarh—many joining via video conferencing. Most grievances were resolved on the spot, reaffirming BSF’s commitment to the welfare of its veterans and their families.
BSF Punjab celebrated International Yoga Day 2025 at JCP Attari with over 1,100 participants, including personnel, students, and local residents. Similar events were held across all sector headquarters and units to promote health and wellness.
On October 19, 2025, the Frontier Headquarters in Jalandhar organized the Diwali and Millets Fair 2025 to promote bonding among personnel and provide a festive experience for families. Under its civic action program, BSF carried out 47 initiatives, distributing computers, stationery, sports items, and essential supplies to local schools and villages. The force also conducted 67 medical camps, including blood donation drives, in border areas.
As part of its Diamond Jubilee celebration, BSF Punjab conducted large-scale institutional outreach programs, including weapon exhibitions, expert lectures, motivational sessions, and cultural activities. These initiatives benefited over 20,000 students from 100 educational institutions, promoting unity, anti-drug awareness, and career opportunities in the armed forces. Senior BSF officers also visited institutions like Lovely Professional University (Jalandhar) and Guru Nanak Dev University (Amritsar) to inspire students toward national service. In honor of the Diamond Jubilee year, BSF introduced its new digital-pattern camouflage combat uniform, designed to meet modern tactical requirements and evolving operational challenges.
