Centre’s U-turn on Panjab University is a victory of Punjab’s pride and unity: Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar

Tarn Taran(The Uttam Hindu): Cabinet Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar, while campaigning in the Tarn Taran by-election, today hailed the Central Government’s U-turn on the Panjab University issue as a historic victory of Punjab and Punjabis. He said the Centre’s retreat is a direct result of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s unwavering commitment and persistent efforts to protect Punjab’s rights.

Bhullar said that the Mann Government had strongly opposed the BJP-led Centre’s move to alter the status of Panjab University, calling it irrational, illogical, and an attack on Punjab’s cultural and educational heritage. “Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had made it clear from the very first day that Panjab University belongs to Punjab, emotionally, culturally, and constitutionally. Today, the Centre’s U-turn has vindicated his stand,” he added.

The Minister said this victory reminds the nation of how Punjab had earlier defeated the Centre’s arrogance during the farmers’ protest. “Once again, the collective will and unity of Punjabis have compelled the BJP government to bow before truth and justice,” Bhullar stated.

He said the Mann Government had already prepared to challenge the Centre’s decision in court and made it a constitutional duty to safeguard the state’s rights. “This is not just about a university, it is about Punjab’s honour,” he said.

Appealing to the people of Tarn Taran, Bhullar said, “Just as CM Mann has stood firmly for Punjab’s dignity, people should strengthen his hands by ensuring the victory of AAP candidate Harmeet Singh Sandhu. Tarn Taran must send a strong message, Punjab’s voice can never be silenced.
