"Don’t worry about my health, focus on Sukhbir’s” – CM to Majithia
Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday advised Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia to focus on the well-being of his brother-in-law rather than expressing concern about the CM’s health.
“The love and affection of the people of Punjab is more than enough to keep me hale and hearty. So, Majithia should instead worry about Sukhbir Badal, who seems to suffer a new injury every other day,” quipped the Chief Minister.
Taking a jibe at Majithia, the Chief Minister said the former Minister seems overly concerned about his health but remains silent on why his brother-in-law keeps getting injured so frequently. He remarked that Majithia must explain what exactly Sukhbir consumes daily that results in fresh injuries every passing day. Bhagwant Singh Mann accused the Badal-Majithia clan of having blood on their hands, claiming they had ruined Punjab and its people during their time in power.
The Chief Minister reminded Majithia that his forefathers had betrayed the nation by hosting a dinner for General Dyer following the horrific Jallianwala Bagh massacre in 1919. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this act was part of the “dubious legacy” of the Majithia family, which continues today. He accused Bikram Majithia of looting the people during his political peak and of patronising the drug trade in Punjab adding that Majithia facilitated the spread of the dangerous drug “chitta,” which has devastated countless Punjabi youth.
Bhagwant Singh Mann added that all is not well within the Badal-Majithia household, asserting that Akali leaders Sukhbir Singh Badal and Bikram Singh Majithia are not even on speaking terms. He suggested the rift may have emerged over disputes related to the division of wealth allegedly accumulated through corrupt practices during their tenure. Chief Minister said that these leaders are not concerned about the welfare of the state or its people but are instead focused solely on regaining power by misleading the public through various means.
