Ex-IG Amar Singh Chahal cyber fraud case: 3 accused identified, ₹3 crore transactions frozen
Patiala(The Uttam Hindu): In a major breakthrough in Amar Chahal suicide case, Punjab Police have busted a massive cyber fraud racket, identifying three key accused and freezing ₹3 crore worth of transactions. The gang, allegedly linked to Maharashtra, used fake identities and multiple bank accounts to dupe people, posing as bank CEOs and lenticular investment offers.
The case took a dramatic turn when former IG Amar Singh Chahal was found shot in his Urban Estate home, leaving a 16-page suicide note detailing his online scam ordeal. Chahal, who retired in 2019, is currently recovering from the self-inflicted injury.
Police suspect a larger gang involvement, with over 10 people under the scanner. The investigation revealed the accused were part of WhatsApp and Telegram groups, orchestrating the scam. Authorities vow to crack the whip on the cyber crooks.
