FIR registered against Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, claim of putting up posters before Republic Day found false
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Delhi Police on Friday registered an FIR against Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannu over alleged threats to disturb peace in the national capital ahead of the January 26 Republic Day celebrations. According to officials, the Special Cell of Delhi Police has filed the case under Sections 196, 197, 152 and 61 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deal with criminal conspiracy, acts endangering India’s sovereignty, unity and integrity, and offences threatening national security.
Police sources said the action followed a video circulating on social media in which Pannu allegedly issued threats to target Delhi around Republic Day. In the video, he claimed that Khalistan-supporting posters had been pasted through so-called sleeper cells in areas such as Rohini and Dabri.
However, after verification and search operations at the mentioned locations, the Special Cell said no such posters have been found so far. Investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the video and to determine the intent behind the claims made by the SFJ leader.
Meanwhile, in a separate but related development, India on Thursday strongly condemned the intrusion at the Indian Embassy in Croatia and the damage caused to the national flag by Khalistani activists. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that those responsible must be identified and held accountable.
This incident is the latest in a series of actions by Khalistani elements targeting Indian diplomatic missions abroad. While earlier cases were reported mainly from Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States, the incident in Croatia has raised fresh concerns. The Indian Embassy in Zagreb was targeted on January 22, just days before the India–European Union summit scheduled in New Delhi on January 27.
A video shared by Pannu allegedly shows a Khalistani activist entering the embassy premises in Zagreb, removing the Indian national flag and replacing it with a Khalistan flag. Authorities are examining the footage as part of the ongoing investigation.
