Holy Man, Unholy Acts: Obscene Video of Punjab Dera Chief Surfaces, Shankaranand on the Run

Ludhiana (The Uttam Hindu) :  After the obscene video of Baba Shankaranand, the head of Bhuri Wala Dera located in Talwandi Khurd village of Ludhiana, Punjab, surfaced, the matter is getting serious. After the video went viral, there has been a huge uproar in the area. In the video, the Dera Mukhi is allegedly seen in an objectionable condition with a woman. After the video surfaced, the accused Baba is said to be absconding and deep resentment is being seen among the local people.

The police have registered an FIR in this entire case and the search for the accused is on. But the villagers allege that this is not the first time that such a video of the Dera Pramukh has surfaced. They say that such videos went viral before as well, but they were suppressed.

After the incident, hundreds of people from the village reached the Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner's office on Monday and submitted a memorandum. The villagers demanded that there should be a high-level investigation into the matter and strict action should be taken against the Baba. The villagers allege that the Dera chief is luring women in the name of religion and trapping them in wrong deeds. He said that there were complaints against the Baba earlier as well but proper action could not be taken at the administrative level. At the same time, the allegation is that even trafficking of young girls is being done in the Dera. The villagers say that the properties of the Dera built by Baba should also be investigated. Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain has assured the villagers that their complaint will be taken seriously. He said that the administration will conduct the investigation with complete transparency and the culprits will not be spared.
