Indian Woman Sarabjit Kaur Goes Missing in Pakistan During Gurpurab Visit
Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Sarabjit Kaur, a resident of Kapurthala, Punjab, has gone missing in Pakistan. She had travelled on November 4 with a group of Sikh pilgrims to celebrate the birth anniversary (Prakash Parv) of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
According to official records, she crossed the Attari Border on November 4 along with 1,923 pilgrims. The group was led by Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj.
After 10 days of visiting various gurudwaras in Pakistan, 1,922 pilgrims returned, but Sarabjit Kaur was missing from the group.
Following her disappearance, intelligence agencies from both India and Pakistan have begun efforts to trace her.
Government sources told IANS that the Indian High Commission in Pakistan is in contact with local authorities investigating the case.
On November 4, Sikh pilgrims travelled to Nankana Sahib to celebrate Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Prakash Parv. However, Pakistani authorities reportedly denied permission to 14 Hindu devotees from Delhi and Lucknow who tried to join the Sikh group.
Last month, the Central Government had allowed Sikh pilgrims to visit Nankana Sahib for the 10-day celebrations. Before this, India had restricted travel due to security concerns.
Each year, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) sends a delegation of Sikh devotees to Pakistan to pay respects at historical gurudwaras, especially during the Prakash Parv of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
For the 556th birth anniversary celebrations, over 2,100 pilgrims were granted visas to take part in the 10-day event.
