Jagtar Singh Hawara Found Not Guilty in 2005 Explosives and Arms Case by Mohali Court
Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): In a significant legal development, Jagtar Singh Hawara, a key figure in the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and convicted in the 1995 assassination of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, has been acquitted by a Mohali court in a 2005 case involving alleged possession of explosives and arms. The case, registered at the Kharar Sadar police station, accused Hawara under the Explosive Substances Act and the Arms Act.
The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Tej Pratap Singh Randhawa, delivered the verdict after the prosecution failed to present substantial evidence linking Hawara to the alleged offences. His defence counsel, Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur, argued that no explosives or weapons were recovered from Hawara and he was not arrested in connection with the case. The court concurred, leading to Hawara's acquittal.
This acquittal marks a pivotal moment in Hawara's legal journey, potentially influencing future parole considerations. While he remains incarcerated at Delhi's Mandoli Jail, the ruling may pave the way for his release, contingent upon the resolution of other pending cases. Hawara's legal team views this verdict as a triumph of justice, underscoring the importance of due process and the rule of law in ensuring fair trials.
