Mohali (The Uttam Hindu): The international music community is mourning the loss of Karamjit Bagga, a celebrated algoza player known for taking Punjabi folk music to global stages. Bagga passed away in Mohali, taking his last breath at his residence late Tuesday night. He had returned from Canada only three days earlier, where he had been performing in a series of cultural concerts.

Karamjit Bagga was widely respected for his mastery of the algoza — a traditional Punjabi double-flute instrument known for its rhythmic and soulful melodies. Over the years, he represented India in several international folk festivals, earning accolades for promoting Punjabi musical heritage across continents.

Friends and fellow artists described him as a humble and passionate musician who remained dedicated to preserving the roots of Punjabi folk traditions. His sudden demise has left the music fraternity in shock. Many musicians and cultural figures took to social media to pay tribute to his contributions.

Bagga’s funeral was held in Mohali, where fans, family, and admirers gathered to bid him a tearful farewell. The Punjab government and several cultural organizations are reportedly planning a musical tribute event in his honor.

With his passing, Punjab has lost one of its most melodious ambassadors — a musician who kept the sound of the algoza alive for future generations.
