Major terror attempt averted in Amritsar, bomb squad neutralises IED

Amritsar (The Uttam Hindu): A major terror attempt was foiled in Amritsar after an improvised explosive device (IED) was recovered near the Raiya police post under Beas police station late Friday night. The device was allegedly planted with the intention of targeting the police facility, but timely action by the police prevented a possible tragedy.

After the explosives were detected, a bomb disposal squad was called early Saturday morning. The team secured the area and safely defused the IED, bringing relief to the police and local residents.

Security has been tightened in the area following the incident. No terrorist or criminal group has claimed responsibility so far. Police have launched a detailed investigation and are examining CCTV footage from nearby locations to identify those involved. No suspects had been identified till Saturday morn
