Massive jolt to Congress in Tarn Taran as dozens of congress families join Aam Aadmi Party
Tarn Taran(The Uttam Hindu): Ahead of the Tarn Taran by-election, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) received a major political boost as dozens of Congress families left their old party and joined AAP on Thursday. All leaders expressed their full faith in the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and announced their support for AAP candidate Harmeet Singh Sandhu.
Among those who joined AAP under the leadership of Dera Baba Nanak Market Committee Chairman Ranjit Singh Bath are Gursimran Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Alamdeep Singh, Mandeep Singh, Major Singh, Nand Lal, and Farman. All leaders said they decided to leave the traditional party after being inspired by the people-centric governance and honest working style of the Mann Government.
AAP Punjab Working President Amansher Singh Sherry Kalsi, Cabinet Minister Lal Chand Kataruchakk, MLA Chetan Singh Jauramajra, and Chairman Gurdev Singh Lakhna warmly welcomed the new members into the AAP family.
Speaking on the occasion, Sherry Kalsi said that the Aam Aadmi Party is a party of common people, where every individual is given full respect. He said there is no favoritism or need for recommendations in AAP, people progress solely based on their hard work.
He further said that unlike traditional parties, where power remains confined within a few families, the AAP government has given ministries, chairmanships, and important positions to people from humble and common backgrounds.
Kalsi said that the people of Tarn Taran are wise and aware. They know that only AAP can bring real development to their constituency and for the people. The AAP government is working with honesty and integrity. Other parties’ MLAs will only make excuses and keep complaining.
Cabinet Minister Lal Chand Kataruchakk also welcomed the young leaders and said that even though this by-election will not make or break the government, it is an election to reaffirm the unity of Punjab and endorse the people-centric work done by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s government over the past three and a half years.
Listing the major achievements of the government, he said that high-quality treatment through Aam Aadmi Clinics, over 350 free medicines, 600 units of free electricity (resulting in zero bills for 90% of households), 56,000 government jobs given purely on merit, closure of dozens of toll plazas to stop public exploitation, and ₹10 lakh health insurance coverage, all these initiatives have restored people’s faith in the system.
He appealed to the people of Tarn Taran to ensure the grand victory of AAP candidate Harmeet Singh Sandhu on November 11, so that the pending development works of the constituency can be completed with double and triple speed.
