Mehvish Kaur and Zorawar Shine at Indian Oil Punjab State Sub Junior Badminton Championship
Jalandhar(The Uttam Hindu): The Indian Oil Punjab State Sub Junior Ranking Badminton Championship concluded with great fervour at the Raizada Hansraj Badminton Stadium in Jalandhar on Sunday. The four-day tournament witnessed a vibrant display of young talent, attracting over 350 players from 23 districts across Punjab.
Organised under the aegis of the Punjab Badminton Association (PBA), the championship featured 10 events in both boys' and girls' categories for under-15 and under-17 age groups. A total of 489 matches were played over the course of the tournament.
The championship saw stellar performances by Mehvish Kaur from Gurdaspur and Zorawar Singh from Jalandhar,both of whom secured double crowns in their respective categories. Mehvish dominated the girls' section by clinching the singles titles in both under-15 and under-17 categories. Meanwhile, Zorawar emerged victorious in the under-15 boys' singles and paired with Satwik to win the doubles title, showcasing exceptional skill and consistency.
The prize distribution ceremony was graced by the Chief Patron of the Punjab Badminton Association, Shri Rakesh Khanna along with Advisor A.K. Kaushal. Senior office bearers of PBA, including Shri Ritin Khanna,Anupam Kumaria,Chitranjan Bansal,Shamsher Dhillon and Parminder Sharma were also present and commended the young athletes for their outstanding performances.

Girls’ Doubles (U17)
In the Girls’ Doubles Under-17 category, the pair of Amelia Bhakoo and Ananya Nijhawan (LDH) clinched the first position. The second place went to Samaira Arora and Upneet Kaur (ASR/LDH). The third positions were jointly secured by Gritha Sachdeva and Japneet Kaur (FZK), along with Dishika and Gursimrat Kaur Chahal (ASR/LDH).
Boys’ Doubles (U17)
In the Boys’ Doubles Under-17 category, Kritagya Arora and Viraj Sharma (ASR/JAL) emerged as champions. Aditya Sharma and Viren Seth (LDH/JAL) claimed the runner-up spot. The third places were shared by Raghav Bhatia and Satvik Bhatia (LDH), and Kartik Kalra and Stavan Jain (LDH).
Mixed Doubles (U17)
The Under-17 Mixed Doubles title was won by Sahib and Samaira Arora (ASR). The pair of Shiven Dhingra and Liyazdeep Kaur (FZK) finished second. The third positions went to Viraj Sharma and Ananya Nijhawan (JAL/LDH) and Kritagya Arora with Ananya Sharma (ASR).
Girls’ Singles (U17)
In the Girls’ Singles Under-17, Mehvish Kaur (GSP) secured the top spot. The runner-up was Gursimrat Kaur Chahal (LDH). The joint third positions were taken by Amiya Sachdeva (LDH) and Ananya Sharma (ASR).
Boys’ Singles (U17)
In Boys’ Singles Under-17, Viren Seth (JAL) was crowned champion. The second place went to Kritagya Arora (ASR). Shiven Dhingra (FZK) and Viraj Sharma (JAL) shared the third positions.
Girls’ Doubles (U15)
In the Girls’ Doubles Under-15 event, the duo of Amelia Bhakoo and Amiya Sachdeva (LDH) emerged victorious. The pair of Inayat Gulati and Saanvi Ralhan (JAL) finished as runners-up. The third spots went to Shivali Sharma and Simarpreet Kaur (JAL), along with Aradhya Singh and Sonakshi (ASR).
Boys’ Doubles (U15)
The Boys’ Doubles Under-15 title was claimed by Satvik Bhatia and Zorawar Singh (LDH/JAL). Abhimanyu Singh and Tanush Prashar (PTA/LDH) finished second. The third positions were shared by Vihaan Bansal and Virat Khanna (LDH/ASR) and Aadvik Bhatia with Kunal (LDH).
Mixed Doubles (U15)
In Mixed Doubles Under-15, the winners were Tanush Prashar and Amelia Bhakoo (LDH). The runner-up position was secured by Zorawar Singh and Inayat Gulati (JAL). The third places went to Abhimanyu Singh and Aradhya Singh (PTA/ASR), and Vihaan Bansal with Saanvi Ralhan (LDH/JAL).
Girls’ Singles (U15)
In the Girls’ Singles Under-15 category, Mehvish Kaur (GSP) once again emerged champion. Inayat Gulati (JAL) secured second place. The joint third positions were bagged by Amiya Sachdeva (LDH) and Aradhya Singh (ASR).
Boys’ Singles (U15)
Finally, in the Boys’ Singles Under-15, Zorawar Singh (JAL) claimed the first position, while Satvik Bhatia (LDH) stood second. The third spots were taken by Abhimanyu Singh (PTA) and Aarav Dogra (JAL).
