Neel Garg slams 'Chacha-Bhatija' government: Punjab knows who is drug mafia and who protected drug lords

Chandigarh(The Uttam Hindu): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) senior spokesperson Neel Garg launched a scathing attack on former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, accusing him of shielding major drug traffickers, betraying Punjab’s youth, and breaking the sacred oath he took on the Gutka Sahib. Garg said that while Captain Amarinder promised to end the drug menace within four weeks, his tenure instead strengthened the very network he vowed to destroy.

Garg recalled that in 2012, a massive ₹6,000-crore drug scam surfaced, but no concrete action was ever taken under the then Akali-BJP government, which was already protecting major drug cartels. By 2017, drugs had become the most explosive political and social issue in Punjab, and Captain Amarinder Singh capitalized on it by making a holy oath on the Gutka Sahib in Bathinda to eradicate drugs in four weeks. “The people of Punjab trusted him. But Captain Amarinder not only broke his promise, he insulted his oath and displayed a weak and dishonest mindset,” said Garg.

Captain Amarinder didn’t break the back of drug chains, he broke the back of Punjab’s youth, Congress and Akalis Protected the Same Drug Lords

Garg said that while the Akali-BJP government had nurtured drug traffickers, Captain Amarinder’s Congress government later protected them, continuing the same unholy legacy. He reminded that ED officer Niranjan Singh and former Punjab DGP Siddharth Chattopadhyaya had publicly stated that the Captain’s government never allowed them to conduct a free and fair investigation into the drug trade, despite having solid evidence. “Their revelations make it clear that Captain’s government deliberately stalled every attempt to expose the big fish,” Garg said.

He also noted that after Amarinder’s removal, Congress CM Charanjit Singh Channi, for political mileage, filed a weak NDPS case against Bikram Singh Majithia on December 20, 2021, a case so poorly built that the Supreme Court granted bail soon after. “Even then, Majithia skipped multiple SIT appearances. The Congress turned this into political theatre rather than genuine action,” he added.

Mann Government’s Commitment to Justice is Firm and Fearless

Neel Garg said that since coming to power, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s government has launched an uncompromising war against drugs, acting where previous governments failed. On June 25, Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrested Bikram Majithia in a disproportionate assets case, probing the source of his hundreds of crores in unexplained wealth and its possible links to drug money. Majithia has been in judicial custody since then, and despite multiple legal attempts, has not been granted bail, which proves that the AAP government’s case is backed by strong evidence and integrity, Garg said.

He added that thousands of FIRs have been registered and countless traffickers arrested during AAP’s crackdown, but when the government began targeting the “big fish,” opposition parties began to cry foul. “The same people who once demanded strict action against the big players are now shedding tears when those very big players are being held accountable,” Garg remarked.

Neel Garg questioned Captain Amarinder Singh’s newfound sympathy for Majithia and his open criticism of the AAP government’s investigation. “When Captain Amarinder was Chief Minister, he never acted against Majithia. Now, as a senior BJP leader, he is defending him. This shows how deep the nexus runs,” Garg said.

He further asked the Punjab BJP to clarify its stance: “The BJP once accused Captain of shielding drug lords and ignoring corruption. Now that he is in their party, do they consider him innocent? Has the BJP changed its definition of honesty?”

Garg said Captain Amarinder Singh not only betrayed his Gutka Sahib oath, but also violated his constitutional oath, failing to act on corruption files he once flaunted in the Assembly, claiming that 45 MLAs were involved in graft. “He was a Chief Minister only in name, he deceived both religion and the Constitution,” Garg said sharply.

AAP Will Complete the Investigations Captain Never Allowed

Concluding his statement, Neel Garg said, “Captain Amarinder Singh failed in his duty, but the Aam Aadmi Party will not. We will ensure every pending investigation is completed, no matter how powerful the accused.”

He warned that the current political closeness between BJP leaders and Captain Amarinder, and their shared defense of Majithia, suggests the beginning of a new unholy alliance. “The people of Punjab can now clearly see the double standards, the same Captain who once claimed to fight drugs was actually protecting the drug mafia. Today, he has proved it himself by siding with them,” Garg concluded.
