Punjab Government Launches QR-Based Donation Drive for Flood Relief

Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Punjab is currently in the grip of devastating floods, which has caused massive devastation in the state. So far, more than 1300 villages in 12 districts have been affected and according to government figures, 29 people have lost their lives. In this hour of crisis, the Punjab government has appealed to the general public to contribute to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund to help the affected people. To make the donation process easier, the government has also released a QR code.


According to the flood media bulletin issued by the state government till September 1, the floods have created a terrible situation in the state. The disaster has affected 12 districts (Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Moga, Pathankot, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Hoshiarpur, Patiala, Mohali, Kapurthala, Jalandhar and Ludhiana) and 1312 villages, affecting more than 2,56,107 people. As of Monday evening, 29 people have died, while 3 people are still missing. An alert has also been issued for Jalandhar and an orange alert for rain is in force today, due to which the situation is expected to worsen further.


Government and institutions came forward to help


In this difficult time, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, along with his cabinet and all MLAs, has announced to donate one month's salary for the flood victims. Apart from the government, many Punjabi artists, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and Sikh organizations are also engaged in relief work at their own level. However, the loss is so huge that the government has urged all Punjabis to unite and face the crisis and help by scanning the QR code or donating through other means to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund.
