Punjab Government's Policy Echoes in Haryana Assembly: Anurag Dhanda
Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Aam Aadmi Party's National Media In-charge Anurag Dhanda on Thursday strongly criticized the BJP government's attitude towards flood-affected farmers in the Haryana Assembly, stating that instead of providing relief to farmers, the Haryana BJP government is turning its back on them by making excuses about rules and regulations. The ground reality is that the recent floods have devastated the farmers, large amounts of sand have accumulated in the fields, and the entire crop has been destroyed, yet the government remains insensitive.
Anurag Dhanda said that when the Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Sardar Bhagwant Singh Mann, has implemented a visionary and farmer-friendly policy like 'whose field, his sand', why is the Haryana BJP government sitting idly by? In Punjab, the sand deposited in the fields due to floods is considered the property of the farmer, and they have been given permission to extract and sell it. This has not only allowed farmers to clear their fields but also earn additional income.
He said that this policy of the Punjab government has not only provided relief to the farmers but has also led to a 30-35 percent reduction in sand prices, curbed illegal mining, and facilitated the rapid restoration of cultivable land. The government's provision of machinery shows that the Aam Aadmi Party government stands with the farmers not just in words, but in action.
Anurag Dhanda sarcastically remarked that instead of showing empathy for the plight of the farmers, the BJP government in Haryana is busy proving that it cannot do anything. Citing rules to avoid providing relief is an old habit of the BJP. If the Punjab government can find a solution, why can't the Haryana government? Are the farmers of Haryana second-class citizens for the BJP government?
He said that the Aam Aadmi Party has a clear stance: farmers cannot be left alone in the face of a natural disaster. The Punjab government's model proves that if there is political will, policies can be formulated and relief can be provided. The BJP government in Haryana should set aside its political arrogance, adopt the Punjab model, and provide immediate relief to the flood-affected farmers.
Anurag Dhanda said that the Aam Aadmi Party will continue to fight for the rights of farmers with full force, from the streets to the assembly, and will hold the Haryana BJP government accountable for its anti-farmer policies.
