Centre Backtracks: Panjab University senate and Syndicate saved amidst protests and political pressure
Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Chandigarh (Uttam Hindu News): The central government has withdrawn its controversial decision to dissolve the Senate and Syndicate of Panjab University (PU). Following widespread protests, the government has rescinded the notification issued in this regard.
The central government's decision, which had been strongly opposed by student unions and several political leaders for several days, forced the central government to take this step.
This decision came just as the Punjab government had announced its intention to approach the High Court regarding the matter.
It should be noted that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann had posted on his handle "X" earlier today that the Punjab government would approach the High Court against the unconstitutional dissolution of the Senate and Syndicate of Panjab University, Chandigarh, and the subsequent issuance of the notification. Shortly after this announcement, news emerged that the central government had rescinded the notification.
