Punjab on high alert as BKI terrorist held with grenade and gun

Amritsar (The Uttam Hindu) – In a major operation ahead of Republic Day, Punjab Police has busted a terrorist module linked to the banned terrorist organization Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). A terrorist operative was arrested and a hand grenade, a sophisticated pistol, and a large quantity of ammunition were recovered from him. Punjab Police DGP Gaurav Yadav announced the operation on Friday.


"In a major breakthrough, the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC), Amritsar has busted a terror module linked to the banned terrorist organisation Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). One operative has been arrested and an advanced pistol and ammunition along with a hand grenade have been recovered," the Punjab Police DGP wrote in a post on the social media platform X.


The DGP stated that a potential attack on a security establishment has been successfully averted. The operation was carried out just before the Republic Day celebrations. The arrested accused was acting on instructions from handlers based abroad – Nishan Jourian, Adesh Jamrai, and Simma Deol. An FIR has been registered at the SSOC, Amritsar, under relevant sections of the law. Further investigation is underway. DGP Gaurav Yadav further stated that the Punjab Police remains committed to dismantling organized crime networks and ensuring peace and security throughout Punjab.


Earlier, in another crackdown, the DGP said on Wednesday that Gurdaspur police busted a cross-border illegal arms smuggling module, arresting one suspect and seizing five modern weapons. The arrested suspects were involved in illegal arms smuggling and were supplying weapons to gangsters on the instructions of foreign handlers. An FIR has been registered in this case under the Arms Act at Police Station Ghuman Kalan, Gurdaspur. Further investigation is underway.


The DGP claimed that he was committed to eliminating organised crime networks and ensuring peace and security across Punjab.
