Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Punjab Police has taken a strict stand against the social media activities of its personnel and issued new guidelines to regulate online behaviour. Recently, videos of police employees dancing, performing bhangra, and creating entertaining reels in uniform surfaced on social media, raising questions about the department’s professional image. After a meeting with senior officials, DGP Gaurav Yadav approved the new rules with the consent of the Home Department.

Following this, the DGP’s office has issued instructions to all Range IGs, DIGs, Police Commissioners, and district SSPs to closely monitor inappropriate social media posts by police staff. Any employee found violating the rules must face immediate departmental action. The department stated that indiscipline in uniform will not be tolerated under any circumstances and strict monitoring will be increased to prevent misuse of social media.

The State Cyber Crime Wing has been appointed as the nodal agency for this purpose. It will prepare reports on suspicious social media activities and present them in meetings chaired by the DGP. The department also clarified that violations of these rules may affect the employees’ Annual Confidential Reports (ACRs) and could impact their future promotions.
