Punjab Releases ₹1.34 Crore for Atrocities Victims, Says Baljit Kaur

Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Punjab’s Minister for Social Justice, Empowerment, and Minorities, Dr. Baljit Kaur, stated on Tuesday that the state government remains fully committed to protecting the dignity and rights of Scheduled Caste communities and ensuring justice for victims of atrocities.

Dr. Kaur informed that under the Protection of Civil Rights Act, 1955 and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, a total of ₹1.34 crore has been disbursed to victims and beneficiaries during the financial year 2025–26.

She added that to effectively implement the Atrocities Prevention Act across the state, the government is strengthening awareness campaigns, strict monitoring, and prompt action mechanisms to ensure timely justice for affected communities.
