Raja Warring’s Remark on Sardar Buta Singh Reflects Congress’s Anti-Dalit and Manuist Mindset: Gurpreet GP
Tarn Taran (The Uttam Hindu): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) SC Wing State President Gurpreet GP strongly condemned the remark made by Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring against former Union Home Minister, late Sardar Buta Singh. He said that through this statement, Raja Warring has publicly exposed his Manuist and anti-Dalit mentality.
In a press statement issued here, Gurpreet GP said that in a viral video, Raja Warring mocked a great Dalit leader by calling him a “patthe paun wala”, but Buta Singh was no ordinary man. He said that the late Buta Singh was highly educated, having completed B.A. Honours, M.A., and Ph.D., and became a Member of Parliament at just 25 years of age in 1962.
Gurpreet GP said that Raja Warring’s colour-based comment is not only a violation of the Constitution of India but also reflects the Congress party’s deeply prejudiced mindset towards the Scheduled Caste community. He said that the Congress party has always been anti-Dalit and historically opposed Baba Saheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar himself.
He reminded that earlier, Congress opposition leader Pratap Singh Bajwa had also insulted a Dalit MLA in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha by saying, “What kind of material has entered the Assembly?”
The AAP leader said that the Scheduled Caste community will always remain indebted to Baba Saheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, who granted them equal rights through the Constitution. Otherwise, leaders like Raja Warring, with their feudal mentality, would never have allowed Dalits to rise. He said that the people of Tarn Taran will give a fitting reply to this mindset of the Congress by voting for AAP candidate Harmeet Singh Sandhu in the upcoming by-election.
