SGPC mandates kurta-pyjama for all Sri Darbar Sahib employees, bans pants and shirts
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) – The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), the highest religious body of Sikhs, has taken a major decision regarding the dress code in its offices. Committee President Harjinder Singh Dhami has made traditional Sikh attire mandatory for all employees. According to the new directives, no employee will come to duty wearing pants and a shirt; instead, pajamas and a kurta will be mandatory.
The SGPC management stated that this step was taken to ensure the observance of Sikh decorum
and traditions. The committee believes that the organization's offices should clearly reflect Sikh identity and culture, especially when large numbers of devotees from both within the country and abroad visit the site.
Rajinder Singh Ruby, the manager of the Golden Temple, told the media that the president's orders
would be strictly enforced. He clarified that all employees must adhere to the new dress code. President Dhami warned that departmental action would be taken against any employee who ignores these instructions. The SGPC argues that such decisions are necessary to maintain the dignity, discipline, and traditional identity of the religious institution.
