Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Congress MLA from Bholath, Sukhpal Khaira, has come under severe criticism for his comments regarding the Punjab government's scheme to provide women with ₹1,000 per month.

Sukhpal Khaira, taking a dig at the scheme, had written -  'Rs 1000 picchhe gidda paun waliyan bibiyan kitthe jamm leniyan soorme'  meaning from where will the women who perform gidda for Rs 1000 produce warriors.

Sukhpal Khaira's comments caused a huge uproar in the Punjab Assembly. The Punjab Women's Commission has taken cognizance of the matter and summoned a report from the Kapurthala SSP. The Commission stated that Sukhpal Khaira made this statement at the instigation of Punjab Congress President Amarinder Raja Warring. Consequently, Khaira and Warring have been summoned to the Commission's Mohali office on March 12th at 11:30 am.

In the Assembly, Cheema asked the Congress party, "Will they apologize? We respect women and Dalit women. Just because someone was born with a silver spoon doesn't mean they should disrespect women. Who gave them this right?" Meanwhile, Congress Legislature Party leader Pratap Bajwa expressed regret over Sukhpal Khaira's post.

It was not me but the YouTuber who said this - Khaira

In this matter, Sukhpal Khaira said that it was not him but the YouTuber who said this. Take whatever action you want against him. If you want to throw me out of the assembly, do so. If you want to suspend me, get me suspended, if you want to kill me, kill me. You have reached the point of demolishing my house. The resolution has been passed in my absence. Khaira said that the YouTuber asked whether these women who are dancing Bhangra for one thousand rupees will produce warriors for Punjab. He said this, not me. The same YouTuber, while remembering many actions of the government, said whether these women will produce warriors. I shared his post. I stand by my words.
