Suspended DIG Bhullar gets bail, CBI court orders release
Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu) - Big news is coming out of Chandigarh. The news is related to the order of the CBI court in which the suspended DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar was granted bail today in the disproportionate assets case. The court issued this decision because the CBI failed to file a charge sheet within the stipulated time of 60 days. The CBI argued that in such cases, 90 days are allowed. However, he will remain in jail for the time being in another bribery case.
Earlier, on January 2, the court had rejected Bhullar's bail plea. Bhullar's lawyer had raised the question in the bail plea that the middleman had first demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from the complainant, Akash Batta, on August 5, 2025, whereas he filed a complaint with the CBI on October 11, 2025. On October 16, the CBI arrested suspended DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar from his office in Mohali. Earlier, his alleged middleman, Krishanu Sharda, was also detained. It is alleged that both of them had demanded a bribe of Rs 8 lakh from Akash Batta, a scrap dealer from Mandi Gobindgarh.
