Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Tilak Varma, who led India to victory in the recently concluded Asia Cup 2025 has made a shocking revelation about his life. The star batsman, who snatched victory from Pakistan's jaws in the final, said that if Akash Ambani and Jay Shah hadn't acted promptly three years ago, he might not have been alive to achieve this feat. The left-handed middle-order batsman made this revelation on Gaurav Kapoor's popular show "Breakfast with Champions."

Tilak Varma recalled an incident from 2022 when he was playing a series in Bangladesh with the India A team. While batting, he contracted a life-threatening condition called rhabdomyolysis. This is a serious condition that causes muscle breakdown and a chemical called myoglobin to enter the bloodstream, which can directly lead to kidney failure.

Recalling that fateful moment, Tilak said, "I was nearing my century when suddenly my eyes started to strain. My fingers stopped working. I felt as if my body had turned to stone, as everything went stiff."

Tilak said his condition worsened to the point where he had to retire hurt. "I remember having to cut my gloves off because my fingers wouldn't bend," he said.

Tilak Varma credited the efforts of Akash Ambani and Jay Shah for his survival from this deadly disease. He said, "As soon as my health deteriorated, Akash Ambani immediately contacted the then BCCI Secretary Jay Shah and inquired about my condition. Consequently, through their efforts, I was quickly admitted to the hospital for treatment."

Tilak said that his condition was very serious. The doctor had said, "If it had been a little longer, you could have died."
