Away grounds turning nightmare for Mumbai Indians, last 25 matches reveal shocking trend
Mumbai Indians struggle on away grounds continues in IPL 2026, with 16 losses in last 25 matches; latest defeat against Rajasthan Royals highlights concern.
Guwahati (The Uttam Hindu): In the Indian Premier League, Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are the most successful franchises with five titles each. However, both teams are currently going through a rough phase. This report focuses on MI, for whom opposition venues have become a major concern since IPL 2023.
On Tuesday in IPL 2026, MI faced Rajasthan Royals (RR) at their second home ground in Guwahati. Due to rain, the match was reduced to 11 overs per side. RR dominated the game, posting 150/3, powered by Yashasvi Jaiswal’s unbeaten 77 off 32 balls and Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s quick 39 off 14 balls. In response, MI managed only 123/9, losing the match by 27 runs.
This poor performance on away grounds is not new for MI. Since IPL 2023, the team has struggled significantly at opponents’ venues. From IPL 2023 up to April 7, 2026, MI has played 25 matches away from home, losing 16 and winning just 9. This translates to a win percentage of only 36%, the lowest among all teams during this period.
In IPL 2026 so far, MI has played three matches, securing their only win against Kolkata Knight Riders at their home ground, Wankhede Stadium. However, they suffered defeats against Delhi Capitals at Arun Jaitley Stadium and against RR at Barsapara Cricket Stadium.
With one win and two losses in three matches, MI currently sits seventh in the points table. Unless the team improves its away performance, its campaign in IPL 2026 could face serious challenges.
