David Warner arrested for drunk driving in Sydney, faces court in May
He was leading Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 but has since returned to Australia. Warner is set to appear in Downing Centre Local Court on May 7, 2026
Sydney (The Uttam Hindu): Former Australia opener David Warner is in trouble after being charged with drink driving on Sunday. The incident occurred during a routine roadside breath-testing drive in the suburb of Maroubra.
According to a report by news.com.au, Warner, 39, stopped and parked his vehicle just before reaching the testing checkpoint. However, police officers approached his car and conducted a breathalyzer, which confirmed that his alcohol content was over the legal limit.
David Warner was taken into custody and taken to Maroubra Police Station, where his blood alcohol content was recorded at 0.104. Warner has since been charged and is scheduled to appear in court next month.
According to the report, the police statement said, "Today (April 5, 2026) at approximately 5:30 p.m., police were conducting random breath testing on Malabar Road in Maroubra. A van was reportedly seen stopping and parking shortly before the testing site. Officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command approached the vehicle and conducted a roadside test on the 39-year-old driver, which returned a positive result. He was arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station, where a second test reportedly revealed his blood alcohol content to be 0.104."
"The man has been issued a notice to appear at court for driving with a 'medium-range PCA (blood alcohol content)'. He will appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday, May 7, 2026," the statement said.
It's worth noting that David Warner announced his retirement from international cricket in 2024. However, he remains active in franchise cricket. Currently, Warner is captaining the Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 and has returned to Australia for a brief break during the league.
Warner, one of Australia's explosive opening batsmen, has continued to impress in domestic T20 competitions, including the Big Bash League (BBL). He recently had a stellar season with the Sydney Thunder, finishing as the tournament's leading run-scorer with 433 runs in just eight matches.
David Warner has scored 93 runs at an average of 31 in three matches of PSL 2026. His team, the Karachi Kings, is currently in second place in the points table after three consecutive wins. The team will now face Peshawar Zalmi on Thursday at the National Stadium in Karachi.
