Fans rejoice: MS Dhoni confirms availability for IPL 2026, CSK eyes Sanju Samson deal

Chennai(The Uttam Hindu): Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanathan has confirmed that MS Dhoni will be playing for the franchise in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 edition. Dhoni, who led India to victory in the 2011 World Cup, informed the franchise of his availability for the next season.

Dhoni's announcement comes after CSK finished at the bottom of the points table for the first time in IPL 2025. The wicketkeeper-batter had stepped in to lead the team midway through the tournament after Ruturaj Gaikwad got ruled out.

Meanwhile, CSK is exploring a potential trade deal with Rajasthan Royals for Sanju Samson, with talks reopened between the two franchises. A top CSK player is likely to be included in the deal, with several other teams also in talks with Rajasthan Royals.

The deadline to announce retentions is November 15, and the mini-auction for IPL 2026 is expected to be held in December. Dhoni, who has been with CSK for his entire career, is set to play his 17th season with the franchise and 19th overall.
