New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Former Indian chief selector MSK Prasad has expressed confidence in Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. He is confident that the experienced duo will prove to be a huge asset for the Indian team in the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Rohit Sharma scored an unbeaten 121 in Sydney, while Virat Kohli made an unbeaten 74 after being dismissed for two consecutive ducks. The two players shared an unbroken 168-run partnership, leading India to a nine-wicket victory in the third ODI. However, Team India could not save the series.

"I am extremely happy. I was eagerly waiting for this performance from him in the last two matches. Unfortunately, it didn't happen, but I am thrilled that it finally happened in the third match. This is very important. As you move towards the World Cup, you need his services. Players like Virat and Rohit Sharma will be huge assets to the team," Prasad told IANS. "I don't think people judge them based on their current form. Rohit is fully fit now. Virat is as fit as ever. So it is very difficult to judge these players. They have 83 or 84 centuries to their name. If you want to judge them, it is amazing to me," he added.

Rohit and Kohli retired from Test cricket earlier this year. They also retired from T20 Internationals after winning the T20 World Cup. Star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has also retired from the T20 format. MSK Prasad praised the trio for passing the baton to the next generation at the right time, saying, "One of the best steps Rohit, Virat, and Jadeja took was to hand over the baton to the next generation after winning the T20 World Cup. This is great. Finally, these young players are starting to establish themselves. We have a very good team."

Players like Shreyas Iyer have struggled to find a place in the T20 team. The former chief selector said, "Actually, we have many players waiting in the wings. Shreyas didn't make the T20 squad, which says a lot about our talent. Whether he belongs in the team is debatable, but I think he should be. Our T20 team has enough potential. We are a strong team."
