New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly says he wants to see Mohammed Shami play in all formats of the Indian team again. Ganguly believes that Shami is fully fit and bowling well. However, Shami has not been included in the team for the two-Test series against South Africa. He last played for India during the Champions Trophy in March.

"Shami is bowling brilliantly. He is fit and we saw him almost single-handedly lead Bengal to victory in three Ranji Trophy matches," Ganguly said. Shami has bowled 91 overs in three matches this season, taking 15 wickets, although he went wicketless against Tripura. He underwent ankle surgery after the 2023 World Cup but has regained his rhythm since returning.

Ganguly added, "I'm sure the selectors are keeping an eye on him and discussions are underway. In terms of fitness and skills, Shami is still the same as before. I don't think there's any reason why he can't play for India in all three formats – Tests, ODIs, and T20s."

The Indian team currently has young fast bowlers like Prasidh Krishna and Akash Deep, but Ganguly believes that the experience of an experienced player like Shami can prove to be extremely valuable in any format.
