New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) : The Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) has announced that a stand will be named after Indian women's cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Mohali. Yuvraj Singh will also inaugurate the stand. Harmanpreet Kaur and Amanzoor Kaur will also receive prize money.

"These players are being honoured for winning the World Cup. We have announced a stand in their name. It will be inaugurated during the India-South Africa match on December 11," PCA acting secretary Siddharth Sharma told sources.

He said, "A stand will also be inaugurated here in the name of two-time World Cup champion Yuvraj Singh. Harmanpreet Kaur and Amanjot Kaur will receive prize money. This stand will be located in the new international stadium in New Mullapur. This is a small gesture for them; they have won the World Cup for the entire country. This is a small gift from us for their achievement."

Siddharth Sharma believes that young girls will join the sport simply by seeing these female players. He said, "Young women will come forward by seeing players like Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, and Jemimah Rodriguez. This will inspire them. Only when the younger generation is inspired will women's cricket progress."

Under the captaincy of Harmanpreet Kaur, India defeated South Africa by 52 runs in the final of the 2025 Women's World Cup in Navi Mumbai on November 2. This was the Indian women's cricket team's first World Cup title.

Batting first, India scored 298 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 50 overs. In reply, South Africa were bowled out for just 246 runs in 45.3 overs.

Yuvraj Singh, on the other hand, played a key role in India's victory in the T20 World Cup in 2007 and the ODI World Cup in 2011. The second match of the T20 series between the Indian and South African men's teams will be played on December 11 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur.
