Harshit Rana credits father for batting focus, not Gautam Gambhir
Vadodara (The Uttam Hindu): Harshit Rana was considered a fast bowler in the Indian cricket team. Over the past year, the right-arm pacer has performed well in all three formats. He has been given the opportunity to bat in addition to bowling, a claim attributed to head coach Gautam Gambhir. Rana has denied this.
After India's win in the first ODI against New Zealand in Vadodara, Harshit Rana spoke about his batting on BCCI TV. He said, "My father introduced me to batting. He has been paying attention to my batting since the beginning. He believes that all-rounders get an early chance to play in the Indian team, so he has always paid attention to my batting as well as my bowling."
Rana said, "Dad calls me after every match. The way I got out 20 runs early, I'm scared about how I'll talk to him."
From this statement of Harshit Rana, it has become clear that along with bowling, he also pays attention to batting from a young age and the reason behind this is his father.
In the first match against New Zealand, Rana played a major role in Team India's victory, making useful contributions both with the ball and with the bat. Rana, who took 2 wickets for 65 runs in 10 overs, also scored 29 runs off 23 balls while batting.
Rana also said in the post-match press conference that the team wants to groom him as an all-rounder so that if some runs are needed in the lower order, he can score them.
India chased down New Zealand's target of 301 runs, scoring 306 for 6 in 49 overs. Virat Kohli, who scored 93, was named Player of the Match.
