Historic Twist in ICC ODI Rankings: Two Bowlers Share No.1 Spot for the First Time

Dubai (The Uttam Hindu): A surprising change has been seen in the latest ODI rankings released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday. Now not one but two players have occupied the top spot in the ODI bowling rankings. South African spinner Keshav Maharaj and Sri Lanka's Mahesh Theekshana have jointly become the world's number one bowler with 671 rating points.

Interestingly, this change has not happened due to any great performance, but due to the poor bowling of Keshav Maharaj. Maharaj, who was crowned number one last week, proved to be expensive in the last match of the ODI series against Australia. He took only 1 wicket for 57 runs in that match, due to which his rating points dropped from 687 to 671.

On the other hand, Mahesh Theekshana was already in second place with 671 points. With Maharaj's points dropping, both players are now tied, leaving ODI cricket with two joint number one bowlers.

Talking about other players in the bowling rankings, South African fast bowler Lungi Ngidi has benefited from taking seven wickets against Australia. He has jumped six places to reach the 28th position. At the same time, Australian fast bowler Nathan Ellis has also made a huge jump of 21 places. However, his fellow spinner Adam Zampa has slipped one place from 10th to 11th, while West Indies' Gudakesh Moti has made his place in the top ten.

Australian all-rounder Cameron Green has made the biggest gain in the batting rankings. Green, who scored the second fastest ODI century for Australia against South Africa, has made a huge jump of 40 places in the list of batsmen and has now reached number 78.
