Dubai (The Uttam Hindu): The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) held its Annual General Meeting at its Dubai headquarters on Tuesday. India lodged a strong protest at the meeting over the non-presentation of the Asia Cup final trophy to the victorious Indian team.

Naqvi's clarification

At the meeting, Pakistan's Home Minister and ACC-PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi said, "I never received any written information from anywhere that the Indian team would not accept the trophy from me. At that time, I stood there like a cartoon for no reason."

BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla raised the issue at the meeting, saying, "This is an ACC trophy; it should have been formally presented to the winning team. This is an issue related to cricketing tradition and the respect of the players." According to the report, representatives from key ACC member countries were present at the meeting. Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar joined from India via video conferencing.

It was decided at the meeting that the ACC's Test-playing members – India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh – would jointly decide on the rules for the formal transfer of the trophy in the future.
