India crumble to their biggest test defeat : South Africa clinches historic 2‑0 series win after 25 years
Guwahati (The Uttam Hindu): South Africa defeated India by 408 runs in the Test match played at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. This is India's biggest defeat in terms of Test runs. With the victory in the Guwahati Test, South Africa has won the series 0-2. South Africa won the first Test played in Kolkata by 30 runs.
South Africa has won a Test series in India after 25 years. The last time South Africa defeated India was 0-2 in a two-Test series in 1999-2000. Hansie Cronje was South Africa's captain in that series, while Sachin Tendulkar was India's captain.
Temba Bavuma became the second South African captain, after Hansie Cronje, to win a Test series in India. The victory in the Guwahati Test also maintained Temba Bavuma's record of unbeaten Tests as captain.
Speaking of the Guwahati Test, South Africa won the toss and batted first, scoring 489 runs thanks to Senuran Muthusamy's 109 and Marco Jansen's 93. For India, Kuldeep Yadav took four wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammed Siraj took two wickets each.
India were bowled out for 201 in the first innings, trailing by 288 runs. Marco Jansen took six wickets, Simon Harmer three, and Keshav Maharaj one for South Africa.
South Africa declared their second innings at 260 for 5 and set a target of 549 runs for India based on the lead of 288 runs in the first innings. The Indian team was all out for 140 and suffered its biggest defeat in Test cricket history by a margin of 408 runs. In the second innings, Simon Harmer took 6 wickets for 37 runs for South Africa. Keshav Maharaj took 2 wickets, Marco Jansen and Senuran Muthusamy took 1 wicket each.
