KKR's IPL 2026 nightmare: Multiple wounds, one big question mark
KKR's IPL 2026 woes continue, with the team yet to win a match. Concerns grow over opening pair Ajinkya Rahane's form, Cameron Green's struggles, and middle-order weaknesses
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have had a disappointing start to IPL 2026. Even after three matches, KKR are still searching for their first win of the season. The three-time champions are facing several challenges, which if not resolved in time, could cost the team dearly.
Opening Pair Problems: Finn Allen and Ajinkya Rahane have been opening the innings for KKR this season. Allen has been batting explosively, but Rahane's form is a concern. After hitting some powerful shots, Rahane has slowed down considerably in the powerplay. Allen, meanwhile, has been getting off to a strong start, but has so far failed to convert a big innings.
Cameron Green's poor form: KKR spent ₹25.20 crore for Cameron Green in the auction. However, Green hasn't been bowling in the initial matches, citing a back injury and workload management issues as advised by Cricket Australia. Furthermore, Green hasn't been able to perform well at number three. He has scored just 24 runs in three matches.
Middle Order: KKR's middle order also appears to be lacking in IPL 2026. Angkrish Raghuvanshi has certainly impressed with his batting at number 4, but he hasn't received much support from the other batsmen. Rinku Singh, who usually plays the role of finisher for KKR, is being fielded at number 5 this season.
Rinku has scored 68 runs in two innings, but his explosive form hasn't been on display. KKR can't expect Ramandeep Singh, Anukul Roy, and Sunil Narine to perform well in every match. Narine was sent in at No. 8 against Sunrisers Hyderabad and managed just 12 runs. Ramandeep made 10, and Anukul made 10. The lack of an experienced or big-hitting batsman in the middle order is clearly visible.
Bowling also a headache: KKR's fast bowling was considered their weakest point in IPL 2026. This has been proven completely true in the initial matches. Vaibhav Arora and Blessing Muzarabani have proven to be very expensive. Kartik Tyagi has also failed to live up to expectations. Along with the pace attack, the poor form of Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine in the spin department has only added to the team's problems. KKR has relied heavily on the Varun-Narine duo for the past few years, and their poor performance is proving to be a huge blow to the team.
