Neeraj Chopra Qualifies for World Athletics Final with Impressive First Throw

Tokyo (The Uttam Hindu) : Neeraj Chopra, India's biggest medal hope at the 2025 World Athletics Championships, has demonstrated his mettle and qualified for the final. Reigning world champion Neeraj started his title defense in the men's javelin throw with a strong performance, qualifying for the final in just one attempt.

Neeraj threw 84.85 meters and qualified. Now Neeraj Chopra's final event of javelin throw will be held in Tokyo on 18th September, in which he will face big athletes like Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan, Julian Weber of Germany. Neeraj Chopra will have a good chance to take revenge of Paris Olympics from Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan. Arshad had won the gold medal in Paris Olympics 2024 with a throw of 92.97 meters. Whereas Neeraj had to be content with the silver medal with a throw of 89.45 meters. However, now he has a good chance to take revenge from Arshad in the World Athletics Championship.

To qualify for the men's javelin event final, athletes had to throw 84.50 meters. Neeraj Chopra achieved this in his first throw. The 27-year-old two-time Olympic medalist was in Group A in the qualification round. Chopra was the first to throw and departed after securing a place in the final. The top 12 athletes who reach the automatic qualification mark of 84.50 meters or the best 12 will advance to Thursday's final. Germany's Julier Weber also qualified with a throw of 87.21 meters. The 19 athletes in Group A include Keshorn Walcott, Jakub Wallace, and Sachin Yadav of India. Group B also includes Pakistan's Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem, Anderson Peters, Julius Yego, Rohit Yadav, and Yashvir Singh.
