Jalandhar (The Uttam Hindu): India’s Priyanka Thakur clinched the gold medal in the Senior Low Kick category at the Uzbekistan Kickboxing World Cup 2025, defeating her Uzbek opponent 3-0 in a thrilling final.
Manpreet Kaur also showcased her talent by securing a bronze medal in the Full Contact category. Both athletes are serving as Head Constables in Punjab Police at Jalandhar’s PAP unit. The team was guided and trained by Inspector Khem Chand and Ankush Gharu.
Priyanka Thakur credited her success to rigorous training and guidance from her coaches. She said, “The competition was very tough, but I gave my best and won the gold medal. This is like a Diwali gift to India.” She further added that she will continue to train harder for the World Championship and aims to bring another gold medal for the country. Priyanka acknowledged her coaches for their excellent guidance, which helped her stay focused and perform to the best of her abilities, especially against tough opponents from Uzbekistan and Turkey.
Manpreet Kaur, participating in her first international competition, said she learned a lot from this experience. She added, “I was not nervous at all, and fulfilling my mother’s dream to see me on television has been very special.” She also shared her determination to train harder and win gold at the World Championship for India. Manpreet highlighted that facing strong opponents from Poland and local Uzbek players made the competition challenging, but the excellent coaching helped her secure the bronze medal.
Inspector Khem Chand, coach of both athletes, expressed immense pride in their achievements, saying, “Our players have made India proud—one winning gold and the other bronze. They have also brought recognition to Punjab Police. We are confident that they will continue their outstanding performance at the World Championship and add more gold medals to India’s tally.”
