Pakistan angry over no handshake, vents frustration on match referee
New Delhi/Dubai (The Uttam Hindu): India registered a spectacular victory by defeating Pakistan by seven wickets in the Asia Cup 2025 match played in Dubai on Sunday (September 14). However, more than this victory on the field, there was a discussion about the "no handshake moment" between the captains of the two teams.
Pakistan is upset over no handshake, complains against Team India, vents anger on match referee! : Before and after the match, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav avoided shaking hands with Pakistani captain Salman Ali Agha. Even at the toss, Surya ignored Salman which sparked a debate over sportsmanship.
In the prize distribution ceremony after the match, Surya said that this victory is dedicated to the families of the victims of the Pahalgam terrorist attack and the Armed Forces. He clearly said that he did not shake hands with the Pakistani players on the instructions of the government and BCCI.
On the other hand, Pakistan team captain Salman Ali Agha was not seen in the post-match ceremony. Pakistan's white-ball head coach Mike Hesson reacted to this. He said - "We were eager to shake hands and talk to the Indian players after the match but their attitude disappointed us."
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed to Dawn.com that team manager Naveed Akhtar Cheema has lodged a formal complaint against the Indian team's "inappropriate behaviour" and the match referee. The PCB says the match referee refrained from requesting the two captains to shake hands at the toss, which is a "serious lapse".
