PCB Hits Back at India with Major Decision Following Legends League Snub
Lahore (The Uttam Hindu): After the Indian team repeatedly refused to play against Pakistan in the World Championship of Legends (WCL), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken a big and strict step. Considering India's stance as an 'insult' to the country on the international stage, the PCB has reportedly banned the use of the name 'Pakistan' in the private cricket league.
According to a report by Telecom Asia Sport, this important decision was taken in the Board of Directors meeting held on Thursday. PCB believes that such incidents are damaging Pakistan's reputation.
Actually, this whole controversy started from the World Championship of Legends League being held in England. As per the Indian government's policy after the Pahalgam attack in April, Indian players refused to play against Pakistan at any level. On two occasions in the WCL, the Indian team boycotted playing matches against Pakistan.
Since this is a private league and not an ICC or ACC tournament, Pakistan could not officially lodge any objection in this matter. To avoid this helplessness and embarrassment, PCB has taken this tough decision regarding the use of the country's name in future.
No impact on today's final, rules strict for future
PCB's decision will not affect the final of the World Championship of Legends to be held today i.e. on August 2. This title match will be played between Pakistan and South Africa as per the schedule.
However, a rule has been made for the future that any private organization must take explicit permission from the PCB before using the name 'Pakistan' for its team or league. If any organization uses the country's name without permission, it may face legal action. The PCB will allow only those leagues and organizations that it finds reputable and authentic.
