PCB cracks the whip: Players fined lakhs after ICC Men's T20 World Cup defeat
Islamabad (The Uttam Hindu): After Pakistan’s disappointing campaign in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, the Pakistan Cricket Board is preparing to take strict action against the players. The board has decided to impose financial penalties following the team’s early exit from the tournament, with each player expected to bear the cost individually. The fines are likely to be recovered from players’ salaries, match fees or other payments as part of a stricter performance-based policy.
Pakistan were knocked out in the Super 8 stage, marking the fourth consecutive ICC event in which the team failed to reach the semifinals. Reports indicate that each player has been fined 5 million Pakistani rupees, an amount considered substantial and one that has drawn significant attention amid criticism of the team’s performance.
Pakistan played all their matches in Sri Lanka but could not make full use of the familiar conditions. The team started with a narrow three-wicket win over the Netherlands and later defeated the United States by 32 runs, but suffered a heavy 61-run loss against India. In the Super 8 stage, their match against New Zealand was abandoned due to rain, followed by a two-wicket defeat to England. Although Pakistan registered a win against Sri Lanka, a poor net run rate prevented them from progressing further in the tournament.
