Despite Injury, Rishabh Pant Shows Grit: Scores Half-Century, Indian Team All Out for 358
Manchester (The Uttam Hindu): On the first day of the Old Trafford Test, wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant suffered an injury in his right leg while batting, due to which he had to go out. But, on the second day when India needed him, he came out to bat. On the second day, injured Rishabh Pant came out to bat after scoring 54 runs. The Indian team was all out for 358 runs.
The BCCI had said before the start of the second day's play that Pant could go to bat if needed. The BCCI said in an official update on Thursday, "Rishabh Pant, who suffered a right leg injury on the first day of the Manchester Test, will not be able to keep wicket for the rest of the match. Dhruv Jurel will play the role of wicketkeeper. Despite his injury, Rishabh Pant has joined the team on the second day and will be available to bat as per the team's requirements."
When Rishabh Pant came out to bat, the audience stood up and praised his courage. In the 68th over of the Indian innings on the first day of the Manchester Test, Pant injured his right leg while trying to play a reverse sweep on the ball of fast bowler Chris Woakes. The ball hit the upper part of his foot from the inside edge, the place where the ball hit was swollen and bleeding was also occurring. Due to this, Pant was not able to put much weight on his injured leg and he had to leave the field. When Pant left the field, he was playing after scoring 37 runs off 48 balls. After the scan, it has been found that Pant has a fracture in the fifth metatarsal bone of his right foot, which will take at least six weeks to recover from. Due to this, he has also been ruled out of the fifth Test match starting at the Oval from July 31. Left-handed wicketkeeper batsman Ishan Kishan can be given a chance in place of Rishabh Pant. Kishan has not been a part of the Indian team since the start of 2024.
