Rohit Sharma created history: Smashes Aussie Jinx, etches name in cricket history

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Indian opener Rohit Sharma made history by scoring a half-century in the second ODI against Australia in Adelaide. Rohit Sharma became the first batsman to reach the 1,000-run mark in ODIs between India and Australia on Australian soil.

Rohit Sharma has scored 1,071 runs in 21 ODIs on Australian soil at an average of 56.36, including four centuries and three half-centuries. Virat Kohli is second on the list, having scored 802 runs at an average of 42.21 in 20 ODIs against the hosts on Australian soil. Kohli has scored three centuries and four half-centuries against Australia on home soil. Sachin Tendulkar is third on the list, having scored 740 runs in 25 matches between 1991 and 2012, while Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who scored 684 runs in 21 matches, is fourth on the list. Australian batsman Steve Smith is fifth on the list, having scored 683 runs in 11 ODIs.

Speaking of the ongoing match at the Adelaide Oval, India, batting first, made 264 for 9 despite a poor start. India lost captain Shubman Gill (9) and Virat Kohli (0) by the score of 17. From there, Rohit Sharma steadied the innings with a 118-run partnership with Shreyas Iyer. Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 73 off 97 balls, while Iyer made 61 off 77 balls. Axar Patel also added 44 runs for Team India. For Australia, Adam Zampa took 4 wickets for 60 runs. Xavier Bartlett also took 3 wickets, with Mitchell Starc taking the remaining 2 wickets.
