Shubman Gill Named Captain for India’s West Indies Test Tour; Ravindra Jadeja as Vice-Captain
Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the Indian squad for the two-match domestic Test series against the West Indies next month. This announcement marks the beginning of a new era in Indian Test cricket, as young batsman Shubman Gill has been appointed the team’s captain, with experienced all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja named vice-captain.
Several surprising decisions were seen in the selection. Sarfaraz Khan, who has been scoring heavily in domestic cricket, has once again been overlooked. Meanwhile, Karun Nair, who performed poorly in the previous series against England, has been left out. Devdutt Padikkal and Axar Patel make a return to the team. Due to wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant not being fully fit, Narayan Jagadeesan has been given the opportunity.
India’s Test Team for West Indies Series:
Shubman Gill (Captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel, Ravindra Jadeja (Vice-Captain), Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Kuldeep Yadav, and Narayan Jagadeesan.
Series Schedule and Semi’s Challenge:
The first Test between India and the West Indies will be held from October 2 at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, while the second Test will begin on October 10 at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium. Even before the series begins, West Indies coach Darren Sammy has heated the atmosphere by stating that if New Zealand can beat India in India, then his team can do it too.
However, statistics favor India. India has defeated the West Indies in the last nine consecutive Test series. The West Indies last won a Test series in India in 2002.
