Group 1 has been finalized, featuring hosts India national cricket team along with South Africa national cricket team, West Indies national cricket team, and Zimbabwe national cricket team. From this point onward, every match will be crucial in deciding the semifinalists, with net run rate expected to play a key role due to the strong competition.
India begin Super 8 campaign against South Africa
India will start their Super 8 journey on 22 February with a challenging opening match against South Africa. This high-intensity encounter will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium from 7:00 PM. A win in the opening game can provide a significant psychological advantage, and India will look to make the most of home conditions.
Zimbabwe clash in Chennai, West Indies test in Kolkata
India’s second Super 8 match is scheduled for 26 February against Zimbabwe at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. The spin-friendly surface in Chennai is expected to influence strategies, making this match important for strengthening India’s position on the points table.
The final Group 1 match for India will be on 1 March against West Indies at the historic Eden Gardens. Facing the Caribbean side’s explosive batting lineup, India’s bowlers will be under pressure. This match is likely to decide the final standings in the group.
Group 2 action and knockout venue uncertainty
In Super 8 Group 2, Pakistan national cricket team, England national cricket team, New Zealand national cricket team, and Sri Lanka national cricket team will compete for semifinal spots. Pakistan will begin their campaign against New Zealand at the R. Premadasa Stadium.
The semifinals are scheduled for 4 and 5 March, with the final to be played on 8 March. The venues for the knockout matches depend on Pakistan’s qualification. If Pakistan reach the semifinals, their match will be held in Colombo on 4 March; otherwise, it will take place in Kolkata. If India qualify for the semifinals, they will play on 5 March at the Wankhede Stadium. Similarly, if Pakistan reach the final, it will be played in Colombo; otherwise, the final will be hosted in Ahmedabad.
